PUBLICATION ETHICS

BIMIKI (Periodical Scientific Student of Indonesian Nursing Sciences) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Indonesian Institute of Nursing Student Association (ILMIKI). This journal is available in print and online and highly respects the ethics of publication and avoids all types of plagiarism. This statement describes the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing articles in this journal, including authors, editor-in-chiefs, editorial boards, peer reviewers and publishers (Indonesian Institute of Nursing Student Institutions). This statement is based on the COPE's Best Practices Guidelines for Journal Editor.

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication. Publication of articles in the peer-reviewed journal BIMIKI (Indonesian Scientific Periodic Nursing Science Students) is an important building block in the development of a coherent and respected knowledge network. This is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Articles reviewed by colleagues support and realize the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree on standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: authors, journal editors, peer reviewers, publishers, and the public.

The Indonesian Nursing Science Student Association (ILMIKI) as the publisher of BIMIKI (Indonesian Scientific Nursing Science Periodical) carries out its duties as guardianship over all stages of publishing seriously and we are aware of our ethical behavior and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprints, or other commercial revenues do not have an impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, the Indonesian Nursing Student Association (ILMIKI) and Editorial Board will assist in communication with other journals and / or publishers where this is useful and necessary.

Duties of Editor

Decision of publication. The editor of BIMIKI (Periodical Scientific Student of Nursing Indonesia) is responsible for deciding which articles to submit to journals should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance for researchers and readers must always drive the decision. Editors can be guided by the policies of the journal editorial board and are limited by legal requirements that will apply regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editors can negotiate with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Fair Play Editors at all times evaluate texts for their intellectual content regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the author.

Confidentiality. Any editor and editorial staff may not disclose any information about the manuscript sent to anyone other than the author, reviewers, prospective reviewers, other editorial advisors, and publishers, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflict of interest. Unpublished material that is disclosed in the text submitted may not be used in the editor's own research without the written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions. Peer review helps the editor in making editorial decisions and through editorial communication with the author can also assist the writer in refining the paper.

Speed. Any selected referee who feels ineligible to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that a quick review is not possible must inform the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality. Every text received for review must be treated as a confidential document. They may not be shown or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Objectivity Standards. Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the writer is inappropriate. Referees must express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Source Recognition. The reviewer must identify the relevant published work that has not been cited by the author. Any statement that observations, derivations, or arguments have been reported before must be accompanied by relevant citations. The reviewer must also call the editor's attention to the substantial similarities or overlaps between the manuscripts being considered and other published papers for which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest. Information or special ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Reviewers may not consider texts where they have a conflict of interest arising from competition, collaboration, or other relationships or connections with the authors, companies or institutions connected with the paper.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards. The author of the original research report must present an accurate report of the work carried out as well as an objective discussion of its significance. The underlying data must be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain enough detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. False or intentionally inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable behavior.

Data Access and Retention. The author is asked to provide raw data in connection with the paper for editorial review, and must be prepared to provide public access to the data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Database), if it can be done, and must under any circumstances be prepared to save the data for a reasonable time after publication.

Screening for plagiarism. The authors must ensure that they have written the original work in its entirety, and if the author has used the work and / or words of others that this has been quoted or quoted properly. The BIMIKI applies the policy of screening for plagiarism. All articles in this publication are original: the content (either in full or in part) in each article has not been knowingly republished without specific citation to the original release.  A plagiarism checker is applied to all submitted papers during initial screening. The journal accepts a maximum similarity index of 25%. Papers leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism will be immediately rejected.

Multiple, Redundant, or Simultaneous Publications. An author may not generally publish manuscripts which basically describe the same research in more than one major journal or publication. Submitting the same text to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable publishing behavior.

Source Recognition. Proper recognition of the work of others must always be given. Authors must cite influential publications in determining the nature of the work reported.

Paper Essay. Authorship must be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, implementation, or interpretation of the research reported. All who have made significant contributions must be registered as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they must be recognized or registered as contributors. The appropriate author must ensure that all suitable joint authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included in the paper, and that all joint authors have seen and agreed to the final version of the paper and have approved their submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest. All writers must disclose in their manuscripts any other financial or substantive conflict of interest that might be interpreted to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.

A fundamental error in the published work. When an author discovers significant errors or inaccuracies in his self-published work, it is the author's obligation to immediately notify the journal editor or publisher and work with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

Peer Review Process / Policy

The manuscripts submitted online to the BIMIKI will be peer-reviewed. The practice of peer review aims to ensure the quality of articles published in this journal. It is an objective process at the heart of good scholarly publishing and is carried out by all reputable scientific journals. The reviewers in our journal play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the journal.

All manuscripts submitted to BIMIKI are peer reviewed using the procedure outlined below.

Initial manuscript evaluation
The Editor first evaluates all manuscripts. Manuscripts rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, or are outside the aims and scope of the journal. Those manuscripts that meet the minimum criteria are normally passed on to at least two experts for review.

Type of peer review
BIMIKI employs a double-blind review where the authors of the manuscript will remain anonymous throughout the process. The manuscript is reviewed by the reviewers that are assigned based on their expertise.

Reviewer reports
Reviewers are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript: - Is original - Is methodologically sound - Follows appropriate ethical guidelines - Has results which are clearly presented and support the conclusions - Correctly references previous relevant work. Language correction is not part of the peer review process, but referees may, if so wish, suggest corrections to the manuscript.

Editor’s decision
Final decision of manuscript (accepted, accepted with minor revision, accepted with major revision, rejected or re-submit) is made by Editor in Chief (together with Editorial Board if required for consideration) based on the reviewers’ critical comments. The editor’s decision is final.

Final report
A final report of the decision whether to accept or reject the manuscript will be sent to the author along with any recommendations made by the reviewers that may include verbatim comments from the reviewers.
